Veterans Memorial Walkway

The time has come to honor our men and women who served their community and country in the military. Therefore, a Veterans Memorial Walkway is being built around the Cole Memorial Fountain. The walkway will be made of bricks (paver bricks) and will be laid out around the outer edge of the fountain. The pavers will be engraved using a laser technique giving each paver clear cut lettering. After the engraving, the lettering will be filled in with hardened black glass giving it a shining finish. Care for the pavers after they are placed in the memorial is minimal They are maintenance free, weather resistant and can be pressure washed if necessary.

So, how can you help?

The answer is simple. If you have a loved one, living or deceased, who served in peace time, any war or conflict, you can purchase a paver. Just fill out the order form, filling in the spaces with the name, rank, branch of service and war served. Each paver has room for three lines with approximately 20 characters & spaces per line. Logos of the five branches of the military are available for an additional $6.00. However, keep in mind, that the logo will cut down on the number of spaces available for the name, rank, branch of service and war served.

The pavers are regularly $50, but we are running a special price until Veterans Day, November 11, 2018, of $40 per paver. If you decide to add the logo, the cost would be $46 per paver. After November 11th, the cost will be $56 per paver with logo.

Weather permitting - orders placed after October 15th, are not guaranteed to be in the memorial until spring. Get your order in early so it will be in the memorial for the dedication of the walkway on November 11, 2018.

Here is a little more information on the program.

The brick paver project is a great way to memorialize our loved ones who served, but also to put their name in a specific place for others to see. Oxford men and women supported every war and conflict from the War of 1812, Civil War and up through today. With that many names, it was felt that a brick paver project around the fountain was the best way to honor them. After all, the Cole Fountain is also a memorial fountain.

In keeping with the idea not to make Lafayette Park look like a cemetery, the pavers will add more width to the fountain base and its appearance enhanced by the plants from the Garden Club. Lowe's Home Improvement will be donating their work of removing the weather-worn hedges, landscaping, setting up some lighting and installing a rope chain around the fountain. Our own local experts on brick and stone masonry will be setting the pavers into the memorial at little or no cost.

Help us build our Veterans Memorial Walkway one brick at a time! (Sponsorships are available)

If you or an organization would like, you can sponsor one or as many pavers for the memorial. This can be done on a one time basis or as a yearly sponsorship. Oxford has many names of veterans who may not have anyone to purchase a paver for them. This is a great way to honor a veteran and support the project at the same time.

Once you complete the form, return it to:
Village of Oxford PO Box 866 Oxford, NY 13830
Checks are to be made out to: Village of Oxford and in the memo section: Veterans Memorial Walkway.
